Gamification in teachning/learning French as a second language

Annotation: Title of the thesis: Gamification in teaching/learning French as a second language Abstract in English This master's thesis focuses on the innovative field of gamification and its application in teaching French as a second foreign language. Gamification, whose elements are gradually implemented into teaching through modern pedagogical approaches, is examined in detail in the work, defining the term itself and introducing its key aspects. The work also deals with the historical development of gamification, which is traced in both the field of marketing and education. As part of the theoretical part, potential advantages and disadvantages of using gamification in teaching are outlined. Concrete examples of successful implementation of gamification in marketing and education are also presented, providing a comprehensive view of the possibilities and limitations of this approach. The practical part focuses on a detailed analysis and reflection of specific gamification elements in the popular language application Duolingo and in two selected French language textbooks. These elements are evaluated based on their frequency of occurrence, quality of execution, and potential effectiveness on student motivation. v anglickém jazyce: FRENCH LANGUAGE WITHIN THE CZECH EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT 1847 -1948 The objective of this dissertation thesis is to analyse the position of French language as a regular school subject taught in the Czech education environment, with focus on the era of the years 1847 - 1948. This interval was chosen intentionally to demonstrate the development and transformation of the position of French language, from the time it appeared in school curriculum as an obligatory subject, through the golden age of Francophony in the interwar Czechoslovakia of the 1930s, up until the year 1948 when the structure of taught foreign languages changed and French language lost its significant position due to the changes in political regime and the post-February policy of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. The thesis is divided into three theoretical sections which represent different points of view on period French language teaching. The initial section includes characteristics of the Czech education environment with regard to the specific types of public schools where it was taught, as well as references to the most significant education reforms which were shaping the school system during the period concerned. French Language Textbooks Used at Czech Secondary Schools in 1948 - 1989

This diploma thesis deals with French textbooks used at Czech secondary schools in the era of the years 1948-1989. The diploma thesis is composed of two parts the theoretical and the practical part. The theoretical part consists in a description of the Czech educational environment, mainly the development of the Czech education system with regard to the most significant education reforms which shaped the system. The description is centred on Gymnázium, which is a specific type of secondary school where the French language was taught. The theoretical part also deals with the question of general theory of textbooks and the chosen foreign language teaching methods. The practical part concerns the analysis of 5 chosen French textbooks intended for the first class of secondary schools. The selection was made with regard to the education reforms mentioned in the theoretical part.
